It seems the main contributor to the school's research is The Welcome Trust, The trust was established to administer the fortune of the American-born pharmaceutical magnate Sir Henry Wellcome.
Through a series of mergers, Wellcome Pharmaceutical became GlaxoWellcome, then GlaxoWellcome merged with SmithKline Beecham, to form current pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline.
